  •   How can I use color "#FF66H0" in my Favorez design? 02-17-2003

The Favorez color picker lets you enter colors as RGB values. If you want to use any existing color from your website then use our on-line conversion tool to get its RGB values. Click here to convert colors from hexadecimal format into RGB (red, green, blue) values.

The background color of the default link icon is wrong? 12-21-2002

Actually this should never happen unless you are trying to customize this icon by putting a file named 01.png in the skin input folder.

Resolve this by processing a "hard" refresh of your page. To do so hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then press the blue button with the white arrow to update your web page.

How can I adjust the icons for folders? 12-11-2002

You can customize any of the Favorez standard icons. Favorez icons have the PNG format. Simply put your own 01.png, 02.png or 03.png graphics files into the folder of the skin you like to customize. The following file names map to standard icons:

    01.png = default link icon
    02.png = closed folder icon
    03.png = open folder icon

    Note
To quickly look up a skin folder hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and choose View Files from the Favorez menu.

When I try Repair Favicons no favicons get updated? 10-26-2002

The repair favicons function in the Favorez Options dialog box tries to look up favicons for all links in your IE favorites window.

There are a number of reasons why this function may not actually update any favicons.

First of all, you do not necessarily have any links with an associated favicon. If this is the case and you wonder what a favicon is, try adding http://www.favorez.com to your IE favorites and then run repair favicons again.

There is another reason why no favicons may get updated. Favorez needs to get the favicons from remote servers on the web. These remote servers could be down. If so the favicon repair function does show a message like "downloading favicon from www.domain.com" but no favicon gets downloaded eventually. This problem usually resolves itself after a while when the remote server becomes available again. Try running repair favicons again later on.

How do I maintain two different link pages with the same skin? 10-25-2002

    Simple Solution
If you want to use a particular Favorez skin to create two pages each with different links, do as follows:

Generate the first page as usual. Choose View Files then copy all output files. Paste the files to some other folder on your hard disk. Now select a new Favorites folder in the Properties dialog box and then generate your second page. You have now created your two pages each in its own folder.

    Advanced Solution
If you need two pages not just with different links but with different colors as well, the simple solution may be too cumbersome for you. It requires you to adjust the colors for each page time and time again. There is a good solution for this too.

Each Favorez skin corresponds with a folder on your hard disk. If you copy the folder of the skin that you want to use you will have two very similar skins but each with its own settings for links and colors. All skin folders can be found in a folder named Skins which in turn is a subfolder of the Favorez program folder.

Typically the path to the Skins folder would be c:\Program Files\Favorez\Skins

Look up this folder using the Windows Explorer. Then right click the subfolder with the name of the skin you wish to copy and choose Copy in the menu that pops up. Then choose Edit - Paste from the Explorer menu. This will instruct Windows to create a duplicate folder for you. Rename this new folder to whatever you like but keep it short.

Finally restart your browser and look up the name of your new folder in the Favorez dropdown list.

    Note
If you have successfully tried the advanced solution you are not that far from becoming a Favorez skin developer yourself!

Where can I get some personal help with Favorez? 10-23-2002

There are several ways ways to get answers to any questions you may have regarding Favorez. First of all you should search this FAQ. Another way is to join our discussion forums at: www.favorez.com/forum. Or you can use the feedback form on the Favorez website.

Banners are one thing, but what about my privacy?! 10-20-2002

Favorez never transmits any personal information, the program is not capable of doing so.

This also means you will not receive any unsollicited email as a result of using Favorez.

When I create a Favorez web page the process seems to freeze? 10-19-2002

If this happens, please wait a while longer and you may find that the process does pick up again.

    Cause:
This problem may occur when your local area network is down.

    Solution:
Make sure you do not have any items in your favorites that link to a file on a shared network folder. If you really need to link to such files then make sure the network is available when you create a Favorez web page.

When I try to email my favorites I get an error message? 10-19-2002

This may happen if your system is not configured to handle MAPI requests. Please contact the vendor of your email client program for more information about MAPI support.

How and when are Favorez banners refreshed? 10-16-2002

Favorez checks for new banners once in a while. The program contacts the favorez.com webserver using a regular http connection. It does so once per day if you have generated a Favorez web page within the last two days.

    Note
Favorez never initiates any network connection by itself. Favorez does not check for new banners if your Internet Explorer is working off-line.

All my favorites are depicted with the same standard IE icon? 10-16-2002

IE simply throws away all those nice website related icons when you empty your IE cache. It is a shame that IE does not give you the option NOT to delete favicons when you empty the IE cache (also known as Temporary Internet files.

Anyway, Favorez to the rescue! Simply choose Options from the Favorez menu and then click Repair Favicons to solve this.

    Note
Favorez needs a connection to the Internet in order for this function to work. The reason is simple: favicons are stored on the webservers that your favorite links point to.

I do not want to regenerate my web page time and time again! 10-14-2002

To skip the page generation process choose Show Page from the Favorez menu. This will take you straight to the page that was last generated (for the selected skin).

The Favorez bar keeps popping up on each IE window? 10-04-2002

Yes, this behavior is by design. If you do not need Favorez for a while you can save space on your IE bars by temporarily hiding the Favorez bar.

To do so right click the IE bar. A popup menu will appear that lets you select which bars should be visible.

In IE my favorites are not sorted, what can I do to resolve this? 10-01-2002

You can either force sorting in IE or in Favorez.

    Sorting Internet Explorer favorites
To sort any single folder in your IE favorites window open the IE Favorites menu and right
click the folder concerned. This will bring up a popupmenu, in this menu choose Sort by Name.

    Sorting Favorez favorites
Favorez sorting options are to be found in the Properties dialog box.
Bring up this dialog box by clicking the button with the pointing finger, then select the second tab at the top named Settings.
There is a limited number of valid combinations for the sorting check boxes. Checking one box may disable another box, protecting you from choosing an invalid setting.

    Note
Sorting options in Favorez affect only the pages generated by Favorez, not the original favorites themselves.

Favorez does not properly copy the ordering of links and folders? 09-24-2002

IE has a rather peculiar method of saving its item order information. Favorez may not always be able to follow its (fuzzy) logic.

Try one of the following to circumvent this:

    • Click a random folder in your IE favorites and press F5 to refresh

    • Rearrange an item in your IE favorites, forcing IE to save its order information. Then update your Favorez web page.

    • Restart IE

Some IE favorites icons differ from the ones created by Favorez? 09-24-2002

This is a well known problem on older Windows platforms. To make sure all icons are up-to-date use the Rebuild Icons option of the Microsoft Tweak UI program.

Favorez simply queries your system for icon information, it does not search for icons on its own.

    Note
    Download Tweak UI from Annoyances.org

What does Include keywords mean in Favorez? 09-22-2002

The Favorez Include keywords option is to be found in the skin Properties dialog box. If this option is checked Favorez will generate a list of keywords, extracted from your favorites. The list of keywords is then inserted into the resulting web page.

Keywords in web pages are seen only by search engines (e.g. google.com) that crawl the web for information. Web pages with keywords get found more often via these search engines.

Why doesn't Favorez use GIFs for its graphics? 09-12-2002

Favorez uses the PNG graphics format because its more efficient and contrary to GIF it is an open standard.
